Do I have to compete if I train at OutFox MMA? No, you do not have to compete, and we do not pressure any of our students to fight. In fact over half of our Team Lloyd Irvin Affiliate members in the U.S. do not compete. Some want to get in shape, some are there for weight loss, others for self defense. We do have some that seek training in preparation of competition, but the choice is yours.
I never trained in martial arts before, can I still train? It seems too hard.A lot of people assume that Mixed Martial Arts is WAY TOO HARD and are hesitant to give it a try. Nothing could be further from the truth. First and foremost, MMA is FUN and doesn't require any previous experience. Anyone can do it: big people, small people, young people, older people, flexible people, non flexible people, experienced people, non experienced people, ANYONE. We have students of almost ALL ages practicing MMA.
What kind of shape do I have to be in? Do I have to train before I come in?Out of shape? This is never a problem because our beginner class is designed to get you into great shape so you can continue your training at the next level and get better with each class. No matter what your current level of fitness, rest assured we know how to transform your body to meet your desired fitness level.
To train in MMA/Muay Thai Kickboxing, do I have to do wild and crazy sparring? I can't afford to go home or to work with bruises and black eyes.No one training at our school is EVER pressured into sparring! We have programs that allow students to train "live sparring"(only with instructors approval)--but it is definitely NOT required. Our program allows you to train and learn real life fighting techniques without the fear of physical injury.
What do I need to bring for my first training session? For the first session, all you have to bring with you is a pair of comfortable shorts for your introductory lesson. As you get deeper into your training you will want to get a pair of MMA gloves, and/or regular boxing gloves and shin guards. This equipment is not mandatory, but it will help you get the most out of your training.
